The weekly dose - Adkar change model
"The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change their future by merely changing their attitude" -Oprah Winfrey
Hello,
It was launch week. I let go of the ‘but just a little bit more tweaking here’ and launched on LinkedIn. I’m all in now. Recommended will be my full focus for 2023. I have my goals for it, I have the vision set out. Let the work commence!
I’m looking for people with something different to say, fresh ideas, a fresh message. You might not have it quite worked out yet but that’s where you want to be too. Drop me a message to find out more about joining the platform. This is about creating a platform for people to get their message heard.
I was in London this week to record The Conversation with BBC World Service. A fantastic conversation which will be out in a few weeks. The studio was next door to the Woman’s Hour studio. The presenter made a comment I’d be in there next time. I’m holding that vision.
So, what have you been up to? How are you? I’ve had a lot of conversations with people under a lot of pressure and feeling low about work at the moment. The important thing to remember is you have options. You don’t have to let work make you feel low. Even if it’s a bad day you can choose for it to be ok.
Spring is on it’s way, the flowers will start to appear soon, a great reminder that beautiful things can grow from grubby shit!
Have a good weekend.

Five things this week…
1.Rethink space
The ADKAR change model - Change is a funny old thing. Consultancies make a shed load of money from change, I was thinking about why. I guess because it feels like it should be easier, and therefore there must be something missing. So pay the experts, they must know. And yet we prove time and time again that us humans, even humans in organisations all manage change in completely different ways.
I quite like the ADKAR model of what an individual goes through to explore this. In my experience working on change programmes there is often a difference between where people think they are in the process, and where they actually are. ‘Awareness’ being the part people struggle with most. What do you think?
I have my version (How to own change) which I use to help individuals think about owning their change story. It’s a bit more instructional as in times of intense change people need more frameworks and guidance.
I thought it was interesting to share as it feels like there is a lot of pressure coming from change right now. And the good news is you don’t have to take on the pressure. You have to work on owning your change story, and you have choice as to how you respond.
So I hope the rethink today will help you to think about where pressure is coming from and maybe you can feel more empowered to own how you feel about it.
2. Listen to
On Another Door podcast is Carolyn Hobdey author of Detwat your life. Yep! You have to listen to her incredible story and her approach to being unapologetically herself. From HR Director to now talking about how to deal with tw*ts in your life. There is quite a lot of sweary language so maybe not one for you if you don’t like it but she has a brilliant message for us to takeaway.
3.Recommended
Visit the Tate Media Networks exhibition. This has been around for a while now so you might have visited, if not, it’s worth a visit if you are near London.
It’s a look at some of the ways in which artists over the past hundred years have responded to the impact of mass media and the ever-changing technologies that shape our world.
Including a diverse range of techniques and materials – from posters and paint to analogue and digital technology – the display raises questions around feminism, consumerism and the cult of celebrity.
It really gets you thinking about how we communicate today, who wea re as humans in this digital world and the impact on our planet. A lot of rethinking going on!
4.What a tool!
planable. I write all my social media post ideas in the planable schedule. They all sit there waiting for their moment to be released! It has a free plan which is really good to get started. So if you only have Sunday nights to do your content planning this tool will help get all your ideas mapped out, scheduled and captured any other ideas that come to mind. So no more ideas escaping!
5.Something random and musical!
I’m loving The Lathums right now. In a world full of digital and pop, they are coming out with good old band music and that feels so good! And love the title ’Nothing but a little bit more’. January has been one of those months where you need good music, good vibes to keep you going!
What have you been listening to? Have you got a ‘Good Vibes Playlist’?
What’s going on in the community?
